Compare The Dentist is a UK service for finding CQC-registered dental practices, comparing published prices and sending an enquiry. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website and the Compare The Dentist iOS app.

This policy applies to comparethedentist.com, the iOS app, and emails or calls we send about an enquiry or account. It does not cover practice websites you leave us to visit, or Google if you open ratings or maps from a listing.

It depends on how you use the service.

• Search: the town, postcode or practice name you type. We do not use your phone GPS.
• Enquiries and treatment plans: your name, email, phone if you give one, the practice you contacted, and any notes or files you upload.
• Accounts: email and password, and the role you signed up with (patient or practice).
• Practice listings: profile details you add, plus public CQC and Google listing data.
• Usage: pages and listings you open, and whether a call button was tapped. We use this to run the site and to show practices how their listing is doing.

We use personal data to:

• show search results and listings
• pass an enquiry to the practice you chose
• run accounts and the practice dashboard
• reply when you contact us
• keep the service secure and fix problems

We do not sell your data. We do not use it to advertise other companies' products to you.

We share data only where we need to run the service:

• the practice you enquire with, so they can reply
• Supabase, which hosts our database and sign-in
• Vercel, which hosts the website
• our email provider, for account and enquiry messages
• Apple, if you download the iOS app from the App Store

We may also share data if the law requires it.

If you sign in we set cookies so you stay signed in. We also use Vercel Analytics to see which pages are used. That is first-party and is not used to advertise to you.

Account data stays until you ask us to delete the account. Enquiries and uploaded plans are kept while we and the practice need them to handle that request, then removed or archived. Usage logs are kept only as long as they are useful for running the service.

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, delete it, or limit how we use it. Email info@comparethedentists.com. If you are not happy with how we handle this, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

The service is not aimed at children under 16.

If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. The current version is the one on this URL.
